Please join Christian CND in praying this month as we intercede for issues here and around the world. We believe God has the power to move in all these situations and that prayer goes hand in hand with our campaigning efforts. There are many things to be thankful for as well as issues we want to bring before God.

Things to thank God for

  • The mobilisation of the peace movement around the world in opposing the war in Ukraine
  • Those in Russia calling out their government and opposing the war, often at great personal risk
  • The calm response to an accidental missile firing from India into Pakistan

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore – Isaiah 2:4
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues the images we are seeing of the suffering and damage caused by the war grow ever more distressing. While there are continuing discussions between delegations from Russia and Ukraine to secure a diplomatic end to the conflict, the threat of nuclear weapons being used is thought to be the highest in at least a generation. Vladimir Putin put his nuclear arsenal on “high alert” within the first days of the conflict.

Please pray with us

  • Pray for those caught up in the conflict, and those who have fled or are seeking to flee Ukraine
  • Thank God that there has been a dialogue between the two sides
  • Pray that the peace talks would quickly bring the war to an end
  • Pray for the leaders involved, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin
  • Thank God for the welcome which those fleeing the conflict have received in Europe

Opposing the war in Ukraine
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God – Matthew 5:9
Protests and demonstrations opposing the war in Ukraine have been taking place around the world even before the conflict started at the end of February. Protests continue to take place throughout Russia, with people often risking arrest and imprisonment to voice their opposition. Christian CND joins the rest of the peace movement in the UK and around the world in standing for peace and standing with those who continue to oppose this war.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for those in Russia who continue to stand against this war
  • Pray that God would strengthen those suffering because of their stance
  • Thank God for the unity amongst Christians across Europe in opposing this war
  • Pray that the opposition to the war would ultimately be a part of the ending of the conflict

International Treaties to limit nuclear weapons
Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps, but let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! – Amos 5:23-24
New dates have now been set the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, which has been postponed repeatedly due to Covid-19. It will now take place in New York starting on 1 August – amidst what are likely to be continuing difficult relationships amongst the nuclear-armed states. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons continues to attract support around the world, with Guatemala and Dominican Republic announcing that they are close to formally joining the Treaty. Elsewhere the Welsh Senedd passing a motion calling on states to join the Treaty and a meeting of the African Union focussed on encouraging adherence to the Treaty.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the new dates on the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference
  • Pray for those who are preparing for the Conference – especially with the difficult backdrop of the war in Ukraine
  • Thank God for the moves from Guatemala and Dominican Republic towards ratifying the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
  • Thank God for the support the Treaty received in the Welsh Senedd

Global security situation
When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers – Proverbs 21:15
North Korea has tested elements of an intercontinental ballistic missile in the past month, in the largest tests of military capability seen for some time. There are also media report in South Korea that suggest that some of the tunnels around the nuclear facilities in North Korea, which were destroyed in 2018 ahead of the summit between Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump, might be in the process of being restored. Elsewhere, at the start of March India accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan. No one was hurt and the response from Pakistan has not involved any escalation in military activities – but the incident shows how such accidents and technical malfunctions can occur.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the calm response from both sides to the accidental firing of a missile by India
  • Pray that the incident might spur discussions around arms control and disarmament in the region
  • Pray that the North Korean nuclear weapons programme would not be restarted
  • Pray for all diplomatic efforts for a lasting peace without nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
