Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labour in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
Psalm 127.1 (NIV)
Let us pray together this month:
- for the cranes sculpture – ‘Hope Will Blossom From These Ashes’ – at Manchester Cathedral until 16 June; that those who see it might be touched and want to find out more about nuclear disarmament and CCND
- Returning from China, Donald Trump declared that he and Xi Jinping discussed a world free of nuclear weapons: “We brought it up, the denuclearization. The concept of that is something that would be very good.” We pray that they would turn that thought into action. (ICAN)
- that the US would renew the NEW Start Treaty with Russia, which expired in February
- for the first annual United Nations’ Peacebuilding Week, which runs from 22-26 June
- June includes World Environment Day (on the 5th), Great Big Green Week (6th – 14th), and World Oceans Day (8th). Please pray that all those working to protect God’s wonderful creation will also actively campaign to eliminate nuclear weapons, which threaten and damage the environment like nothing else
- for our fellowship within CCND; for more people to join the Executive Committee later this year
A Prayer
God of peace,
we cannot bring about a world free of nuclear weapons in our own strength.
Please help us to watch and pray,
and may all our actions be guided by you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
