Israel had turned to Canaanite fertility gods for the things she needed, rather than acknowledging that Yahweh was ‘the one who gave her grain, the new wine and oil’ (see Hosea 2.5,8). Yahweh led the people of Israel into the wilderness, so that they could learn to be his people again, which includes being a people of peace (see Hosea 2.18).
Please pray with us this month:
- that nuclear armed nations would stop putting their trust in weapons of mass destruction
- that world leaders would heed the warning of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which has moved its ‘Doomsday Clock’ forward to 85 seconds to midnight (https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/2026-statement/)
- that the USA might negotiate peace with Iran
- for our Ash Wednesday Witness & Prayer for Peace with Pax Christi
- for our fellowship and support of one another in CCND, and for a new Treasurer
A prayer
The Beginning and the End are in your hands, O Creator of the Universe. And in our hands you have placed the fate of this planet. We, who are tested by both creative and destructive power in our free will, turn to you in sober fear and intoxicating hope. We ask for your guidance and to share your imagination in our deliberations about the use of nuclear force. Help us lift the fog of atomic darkness that hovers so pervasively over our Earth, your Earth, so that soon all eyes may see life magnified by your pure light. Bless all of us who wait today for your presence and who dedicate ourselves to achieve your intended peace and rightful equilibrium on Earth. In the Name of all that is holy and all that is hoped. Amen.
