Christian CND Prayer Diary – December

Christian CND Prayer Meetings
We gather twice a month on Zoom to prayer together. Upcoming dates include:

Wednesday 14 December @ 8pm

Please join Christian CND in praying this month as we intercede for issues here and around the world. We believe God has the power to move in all these situations and that prayer goes hand in hand with our campaigning efforts. There are many things to be thankful for as well as issues we want to bring before God.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint – Isaiah 40:31
As the harsh winter starts to take hold in Ukraine Russia continues to target infrastructure leading to lack of energy and water supplies for many – exacerbating the suffering already being caused by the war. The use of drones has been expanding on both sides during recent weeks, and explosions have also been reported inside Russia. International efforts towards peace appear to have stalled – although Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby did visit the region.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the visit to Ukraine of Justin Welby
  • Pray that his visit would lead to renewed efforts for peace
  • Pray for those living with lack of energy and water in Ukraine
  • Pray for those displaced and those worrying about others left behind
  • Pray for a speedy diplomatic solution to the crisis

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope – Jeremiah 29:11
Despite no new signatures or ratifications in November, there has been plenty of activity around the TPNW. ICAN, of which CCND is a partner organisation, has been active at a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean states pushing for a nuclear weapons-free world, while a new campaign has been launched in Switzerland calling on the Swiss government to join the Treaty.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the leader of the states who have been opposing nuclear weapons for many years
  • Thank God for the work of ICAN and the role they play on the international stage
  • Pray that these states signing the Treaty will quickly complete ratification
  • Thank God for the work of Swiss campaigners in launching a new campaign
  • Pray that more states, including those nuclear-armed, would engage with the Treaty

US Nuclear Weapons in the UK
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen – Hebrews 11:1
There has yet to be any confirmation or denial that US nuclear weapons will be returning to the UK – with RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk thought to be the location if it is to happen. Last month CND held a further demo at the base, which Christian CND supported. The return of US nuclear weapons to the UK  would represent a step backwards in the international situation and could increase tensions at an already dangerous time.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the demonstration last month – that good attendance will lead to increased awareness
  • Thank God for those who have been opposing nuclear weapons at RAF Lakenheath in the past, and for the new support this year
  • Pray that the American nuclear weapons would not return to the base and others in Europe ear-marked for infrastructure upgrades

Work of Christian CND in 2022 and 2023
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer – Romans 12:12
Christian CND has had another very busy year, working and praying for a world free of nuclear weapons. This year we have spoken to hundreds of people at festivals, reached tens of thousands on social media and even more through the media, including a BBC Local Radio round of 16 interviews! We’re starting to plan for next year and once again want to make prayer at the centre of what we do as we continue to join others around the world in seeking a peaceful future without nuclear weapons.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for all that Christian CND has achieved in 2022
  • Thank God for CCND being able to attend festivals and speak at workshops
  • Thank God for the support and engagement of our members
  • Pray that the organisation would continue to grow in 2023
  • Pray that our impact would be even bigger

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
