Things to thank God for

  • Christian CND involvement in Thy Kingdom Come which saw many praying for peace
  • The great turnout at RAF Lakenheath for the demonstration against the return of US nukes to the UK
  • A successful time at Big Church Day Out with many great conversations
  • Congo becoming the 61st state to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word – Psalm 119:114
The war in Ukraine continues, along with the unimaginable suffering of all those on both sides who have been affected by the conflict. While the threat of escalation and nuclear weapons being used remains, the Russian Ambassador to the UK did say last month that Russia will not use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Both sides have indicated that there is a willingness to return to the negotiating table after talks have previously stalled.

Please pray with us

  • Pray for those caught up in the conflict, those who have fled or are seeking to flee
  • Pray that leaders would return to peace talks quickly
  • would make progress and bring an end rapid to the conflict
  • Pray for the leaders involved, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy & Vladimir Putin
  • Pray for those who are anxious about the threat of nuclear weapons being used
  • Thank God for the welcome which those fleeing the conflict have received

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer – Romans 12:12
The First Meeting of States Parties of the Treaty will take place in Vienna later this month. As well as the formal meeting where states to discuss the progress of the Treaty and the next steps – there will be many side events where civil society can discuss issues around the Treaty and more widely with nuclear weapons and disarmament. Christian CND will be attending – as will some NATO states including Norway and Germany. We hope that there is still time for the UK to change its position and decide to attend as an observer. Meanwhile Congo became the 61ststate to officially join the Treaty when it completed Ratification last month.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for Congo ratifying the Treaty
  • Thank God for all states that have signed, and pray that they would soon ratify
  • Pray for those preparing for the First Meeting of States Parties
  • Pray that the meeting would be fruitful and raise the profile of the Treaty
  • Pray that more states would join Norway, Germany and Switzerland in committing to attend as observers

North Korean nuclear weapons programme
The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing – Zephaniah 3:17
After 17 tests of missiles so far this year, there are reports that the North Korean regime are preparing to undertake a nuclear test. This would be the seventh test since 2006 but the first since 2017. South Korea and the United States have been discussing expanding military exercises in the area – with new South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol also stating that talks have taken place with President Biden about the deployment of further military hardware to the region. Meanwhile Joe Biden has indicated his willingness to meet Kim Jong-Un to discuss these matters.

Please pray with us

  • Pray that there would be no nuclear test from the North Koreans
  • Pray that tensions in the region would de-escalate
  • Pray that a meeting between Joe Biden and Kim Jong-Un will take place and make progress
  • Pray for those living on the Korean Peninsula under the threat of war
  • Thank God for the Bargn Nuri Community and their witness for peace in South Korea

American nuclear weapons returning to the UK
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD – Jeremiah 17:7
After reports that the UK will once again be hosting American nuclear weapons, Christian CND joined hundreds of others from across the country at RAF Lakenheath last month to protest against the move. There has still been no official comment on the matter from the UK government, but reports in the United States indicate that the nuclear storage facilities at the Suffolk base are being undergoing an upgrade. There were previously around 100 bombs stored at the base, before they were removed in 2008 after decades of protest.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the good turnout at the demonstration at RAF Lakenheath
  • Pray for those who make the final decisions, that they would not host US nuclear weapons in the UK
  • Pray for those working on and around the base, facing the prospect of being so close to nuclear bombs
  • Pray that there would be increased awareness around this decision

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
