The annual Ash Wednesday event took place on 26 February. The London event, organised by Pax Christi, Christian CND and the London Catholic Worker, began with a liturgy in Embankment Gardens. They were joined by Buddhist monks and nuns from the Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park, as well as J& P groups, Catholic, Anglican and Methodist clergy.
In Coventry Pax Christi and friends gathered for a vigil on the Old Cathedral steps at 11.45am. In Liverpool there was a service at 12noon in St Luke’s, the city’s bombed-out-church and continued with a procession through the town centre. In Glasgow campaigners gathered at Faslane Naval base near Helensburgh in Scotland.
For the 40 days of Lent, Christian Climate Action and XR Peace are also holding a round-the-clock prayer outside Westminster Abbey.
