Christian CND at Downing Street

On Tuesday 12 March Christian CND visited Downing Street to hand in our petition calling on the government to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. More than 1000 of you have signed the petition, with many taking a copy to church to ask members of your congregation to sign.

The Treaty was agreed by the United Nations in 2017 with the support of 122 states. Sadly the UK has so far refused to engage with the Treaty. The vast majority of Churches in the UK support the Treaty including the Quakers, the United Reformed Church, the Baptist Union, the Methodist Church, the Church of Scotland and the Church of England, which passed a motion of support at General Synod last year.

We were delighted to be joined in Downing Street by Pat Gaffney from Pax Christi, Christian CND stalwart Bruce Kent and Sara Medi Jones from CND. We will update you on the response of the government once it is received.

We made a short video of the event, which you can see below.

Our petition may have been handed in, but our campaigning work continues. We rely on supporters and members to enable us to carry on this vital work for peace.
