Keynote Address: Connecting through Faith when Governments Manipulate and Threaten Existential Risk
We’re delighted to welcome Paul Ingram as our keynote speaker. Paul is a British Quaker with decades of experience in international diplomacy and nuclear disarmament negotiations.
Highlights of his work include:
- Director of BASIC (2007–19): led the Trident Commission and developed the Stepping Stones Approach, which inspired the 16-nation Stockholm Initiative for Nuclear Disarmament.
- International diplomacy: hosted a weekly talk show on Iranian state TV (2007–12), engaging with senior figures in Ahmadinejad’s government and helping facilitate back-channel negotiations that paved the way for the Iran nuclear deal.
- Political leadership: Co-Leader of Oxford City Council (2000–02) for the Greens.
- Humanitarian advocacy: First Chair of Crisis Action (2004–07), now a global award-winning network protecting civilians from conflict.
Paul is currently developing interfaith action on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and disarmament, exploring how faith communities can challenge cynicism, populism, and neo-fascism by offering a hopeful, collective vision for humanity.
