Please join Christian CND in praying this month as we intercede for issues here and around the world. We believe God has the power to move in all these situations and that prayer goes hand in hand with our campaigning efforts. There are many things to be thankful for as well as issues we want to bring before God.

Things to thank God for

  • Five states signing the Nuclear Ban Treaty and a further two states ratifying
  • The Christian CND AGM and new Executive Committee beginning work
  • Christian CND having the opportunity to discuss the situation in Ukraine on the BBC

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:6-7
After nearly eight months of conflict the war in Ukraine continues to escalate, as Moscow annexed four regions last month. President Putin has previously said that these regions will now be considered part of Russia and defended with all available means, including nuclear weapons. Leaders within Russia have been calling for the use of ‘tactical’ nuclear weapons, while the United States has indicated that there would be a military response if they were used. Against this backdrop Christian CND was invited on to BBC Local Radio to discuss the Christian response to the threat.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the opportunity for Christian CND to speak out in the media
  • Pray for our political leaders to have the courage to seek peace
  • Pray that God would soften the heart of Vladimir Putin and those around him
  • Pray for those living with the fear of nuclear weapons being used
  • Pray for those involved in the fighting and their families, that God will comfort them
  • Pray for a speedy diplomatic solution to the crisis

Situation on the Korean Peninsula

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city – Proverbs 16:12

North Korea has fired a number of missiles in the past weeks, but at the start of October fired one over Japan for the first time since 2017. The missile launch is extremely concerning and following military drills carried out by the United States and allies nearby. There have been growing concerns that Pyong-Yang may be about to test a nuclear weapon. There have been no talks to attempt to resolve the issue for some years.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God that there were no casualties as a result of this missile test
  • Pray that there would not be a nuclear weapons test by North Korea
  • Pray that the international community would find a solution to the situation
  • Pray for those living in the region under the threat of nuclear weapons use

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful – Colossians 3:15
At a special ceremony alongside the United Nations General Assembly last month five states signed the Ban Treaty while another two completed ratification. The number of signatures now stands at 91 after Barbados, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Haiti and Sierra Leone added their names, while the number of ratifications is now 68 following Dominican Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo formally joining the Treaty.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the states that signed and ratified in September
  • Thank God for their leaders and civil society, including the churches, who have worked so hard to bring this about
  • Thank God for the continued unity in the international community against nuclear weapons
  • Pray that these states signing the Treaty will quickly complete ratification
  • Pray that more states, including those nuclear-armed, would engage with the Treaty

Christian CND AGM and Exec
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you – Philippians 4:9
The Christian CND AGM took place on 1 October, moved to Zoom because of a train strike. We enjoyed a time of fellowship, prayer and discussion about our priorities and structure of the organisation moving forward. We also welcome the new Executive Committee to their roles, and paid tribute to our former Co-Chair David Maxwell and Bruce Kent who died in the past year.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for those who served on the Exec in the past year, especially William Rhind, Rebecca Dillon and Geraldine Ellis who are stepping back from the Committee
  • Thank God for those joining the Exec
  • Thank God for the input of all Christian CND members and supporters over the past year
  • Pray for wisdom as the Exec continues to explore future options for organisational structure

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
