Things to thank God for

  • A successful intern year for Christian CND interns Liddy Buswell and Simon Ramacci. Please pray for Liddy as she starts a new role with us as Outreach Manager and for Simon as he embarks on a new season.
  • Malawi becoming the 66th state to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God
The war in Ukraine continues, despite being moved out of the headlines in the UK over recent months. While the conflict continues to cause untold suffering across Ukraine, there have been further signs of hope, with a deal struck between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations which has already seen the first grain shipment leave Odessa.

Please pray with us

  • Pray for those that continue to be caught up in the conflict
  • Thank God for the work of the UN and Turkey in brokering the deal on exports
  • Pray that leaders would work for peace
  • Pray for a speedy resolution to the war through diplomatic means
  • Thank God for the peace groups working on this issue across the world

Hiroshima and Nagasaki Days
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted – Matthew 5:4
At the start of August we will join the global peace movement in pausing to remember those who died in and suffered as a result of, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. As well as reflecting on the devastation caused by nuclear weapons we also remember those who experienced the attack first-hand and have dedicated their lives to working for peace. Christian CND will hold our annual service of remembrance in Essex, as well as an online vigil on Saturday evening. In addition, our Exec member Martin Tiller will speak at the Coventry Cathedral Service.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the many opportunities to reflect on the bombings
  • Pray for those who continue to live with the effects of the bombs
  • Pray that commemorations in Japan would focus minds of politicians when considering changing the Japanese constitution to move away from pacifism
  • Pray for the events taking place around UK

Christian CND work in August
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy – Matthew 5:7
Christian CND will be attending Greenbelt at the end of August, as part of our outreach to Christians. We haven’t been to the festival for a good number of years, but we’re looking forward to going back and having some good conversations with people there alongside our friends in the Fellowship of Reconciliation. Also, in August we are delighted to be welcoming our friends from the Bargn Nuri Community in South Korea back to the UK. The group of young people are joining us as part of their peace pilgrimage and will be taking part in an event in Coventry before joining us at Greenbelt. Throughout their tour they’ll be performing traditional South Korean drumming, singing peace prayers and sharing about their work for peace, as well as hearing from peacemakers in the UK.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the opportunity for CCND to attend Greenbelt
  • Thank God for the relationship with FOR
  • Thank God for our relationship with the Bargn Nuri
  • Pray for them as they travel around Europe on their Peace Pilgrimage
  • Pray that we would have a fruitful time at Greenbelt

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied – Matthew 5:6
This month the international community will gather in New York for the Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty – which was due to take place in 2020 but has been postponed due to Covid. Christian CND has a representative in New York, meeting diplomats and playing a part in civil society work around the meeting. With the current global landscape, it looks unlikely that there will be any significant breakthrough on disarmament – despite a statement from the five nuclear-armed states within the NPT framework that a nuclear war can never be won and must never be fought.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God that this meeting is finally taking place after many postponements
  • Pray for Aaron Humphriss from Christian CND who is attending the meeting
  • Pray for those diplomats who are working behind the scenes at the Conference
  • Pray that there would be a breakthrough towards disarmament

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
