  • A fruitful time at Big Church Day Out for Christian CND
  • The life and campaigning of Bruce Kent, who died earlier this month

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know –  Jeremiah 33:3
The war in Ukraine continues, with the recent bombing of Kiev and a shopping centre full of civilians. There have been forecasts in the media that the war is entering a phaser that could see an attritional conflict with significant loses on both sides. Meanwhile Vladimir Putin has indicated he will send nuclear-capable weapons to Belarus in response to the increase in the NATO forces in the region. Putin has also previously threatened retaliation is Finland and Sweden were to join NATO, something which seems imminent after Turkey dropped its veto.

Please pray with us

  • Pray for those that continue to be caught up in the conflict
  • Pray for those civilians living on the front line in the east of Ukraine
  • Pray that leaders would work for peace
  • Pray for a speedy resolution to the war through diplomatic means
  • Thank God for the peace groups working on this issue across the world

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
The First Meeting of States Parties of the Treaty took place in Vienna last month, with states which have ratified the Treaty joined by observers including Belgium, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands. The meeting featured statements from heads of governments ans civil society, including one signed by 140 faith-based groups, including Christian CND. The meeting concluded with a comprehensive Declaration and Action Plan for net steps. Just prior to the meeting four more states – Timor-Leste, Grenada, Cabo Verde and Guatemala completed ratification of the Treaty, taking the total number of States Parties to 65.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for Timor-Leste, Grenada, Cabo Verde & Guatemala ratifying
  • Thank God for all states that have signed, and pray that they would soon ratify
  • Thank God for the successful meeting of States Parties
  • Thank God for those joining as observers, especially NATO Member States and Australia
  • Pray that the Action Plan would be successful in securing further progress

Global nuclear weapons stockpiles
And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him – 1 John 5:15
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said last month that it believes global nuclear stockpiles could be set to increase for the first time in decades. The move comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions and the threat of the use of nuclear weapons being the highest for a generation. The UK is one state increasing its nuclear stockpile, with the government ending 30 years of gradually reducing the number of warheads, lifting the cap on the stockpile by more than 40% last year.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for this research and the profile it has been given in the media
  • Thank God for politicians around the world who are challenging increases in nuclear weapons stockpiles in parliaments
  • Thank God for the campaigners and civil society groups, including churches, calling for reductions in stockpiles
  • Pray that any increases would be temporary and reversed net year

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind – James 1:6
The Review Conference for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty will take place in New York at the beginning of August. During the meeting states will try and agree a way forward for nuclear disarmament. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the increased tensions between Russia and other nuclear-armed states, there are low expectations of a meaningful deal. Christian CND will be attending the meeting as part of the civil society contingent and we’ll be meeting diplomats and urging progress.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God that the Conference will take place after two years of delay
  • Thank God for the statement in Janaury from the five nuclear-armed states within the NPT reaffirming the commitment that a nuclear war must never happen
  • Pray for those who are working behind the scenes ahead of the Conference
  • Pray for those from civil society taking part, including the CCND team
  • Pray that there would be a breakthrough at the Conference

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
