Thursday 26 May @ 1pm
Thursday 2 June @ 8pm

Please join Christian CND in praying this month as we intercede for issues here and around the world. We believe God has the power to move in all these situations and that prayer goes hand in hand with our campaigning efforts. There are many things to be thankful for as well as issues we want to bring before God.

Things to thank God for

  • The legislature in Timor-Leste unanimously agreeing to the ratification of the Ban Treaty
  • The decision by the Danish Doctors Pension Fund to divest from nuclear weapons
  • The visit to Russia and Ukraine by the UN Secretary General

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer – Romans 12:12
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues peace talks appear to have stalled, although there was an evacuation of some civilians from Mariupol following a visit to Russia and Ukraine by the United Nations Secretary General. Rhetoric from Russia has continued to include references to the possibility of a nuclear war, with state-media even showing a simulation of a strike on the UK with a nuclear-armed underwater drone. The British government has announced a further £300 million worth of equipment will be sent to Ukraine, while the American administration has pledged to ensure Ukraine can fight “to the end”.

Please pray with us

  • Pray for those caught up in the conflict, those who have fled or are seeking to flee
  • Pray that peace talks would make progress and bring an end rapid to the conflict
  • Pray for the leaders involved, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy & Vladimir Putin
  • Pray that rhetoric around nuclear weapons would cool and avoid sensationalism
  • Pray for those who are anxious about the threat of nuclear weapons being used
  • Thank God for the welcome which those fleeing the conflict have received

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint – Isaiah 30:41
The parliament of Timor-Leste voted unanimously to approve the ratification of the ban Treaty last month, and we await the news that the final confirmation has been given to the United Nations. We also await the formal ratification notices from Guatemala and Dominican Republic after decisions by their parliaments. Meanwhile plans for the First Meeting of States Parties of the Treaty, scheduled now for 21-23 June in Vienna, are well underway, and Christian CND will have a presence at the meeting.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for Timor-Leste moving towards ratifying the Treaty
  • Thank God for all states that have signed, and pray that they would soon ratify
  • Pray for those preparing for the First Meeting of States Parties
  • Pray that the meeting would be fruitful and raise the profile of the Treaty
  • Pray that more states would join Norway, Germany and Switzerland in committing to attend as observers

Divestment from nuclear weapons
For through the Spirit, we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope – Galations 5:5
During the season when financial institutions in the UK are holding their AGMs, Christian CND is joining other organisations in calling for money to be moved away from nuclear weapons and invested for the benefit of society. We have already had dialogue with Barclays, HSBC and Nest – but now we need to show the strength of feeling on this issue amongst customers, especially as Europe faces such a significant threat of nuclear war. While the campaign continues, the Danish Doctors Pension Fund – Lægernes Pensionskasse – have announced it is divesting from nuclear weapons.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for the decision of the Danish Doctors Pension Fund to divest from nuclear weapons
  • Thank God for the Investing in Change group and the engagement it has had with financial institutions to date
  • Pray that as investors approach AGMs they would consider the harm their money is doing invested in nuclear weapons
  • Pray that banks would begin to change policies on nuclear weapons investments
  • Pray that consumers would continue to seek ethical investments

American nuclear weapons returning to the UK
For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal 2 Corinithians 4:18
It appears that the UK will once again be hosting American nuclear weapons, with RAF Lakenheath undergoing an upgrade to its nuclear storage facilities. American nuclear bombs were hosted at the base previously, but removed in 2008 after decades of protests and opposition – including many prayer vigils. Christian CND is again joining those who are opposing this move, holding a prayer service on Saturday 21 May before joining the main demonstration, organise by CND.

Please pray with us

  • Thank God for those who have already spoken out against this move
  • Pray for those who make the final decisions, that they would not host US nuclear weapons in the UK
  • Pray for those working on and around the base, facing the prospect of being so close to nuclear bombs
  • Thank God for the opportunity to protest on 21 May
  • Pray for a good turnout which would lead to increased awareness

Please keep the Christian CND staff team and Exec in your prayers.
