In following Jesus, we renounce our temptation to seek or to idolise worldly power. The possession of nuclear weapons is an abhorrent display of such idolatry. Our work at Christian CND is a struggle against the powers of this world, in service of the God we worship. Building our efforts on a foundation of prayer is essential.
Pray with us
All-powerful God, we thank you for the words of scripture that nourish and challenge us. During Lent, help us to renounce the things that lead us away from peace.
Lord Jesus, who rejected power as the world offers it, we ask you to reawaken in governments and leaders a desire to eliminate nuclear weapons. May they find just and honourable ways to work together in achieving nuclear disarmament and peace for all, in your holy name.
Lord of life, in this year of the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we put our faith in you, not in threats of complete destruction. May we encourage more Christian people to stand with us against nuclear weapons and commit to working for your kingdom of peace.
