Will be held on Saturday 19th October in Leicester at The Frassati Centre – tickets are free, so please register here.
Join us for a meaningful and inspiring day at our Annual General Meeting! The day will begin at 10am with a warm welcome and opening prayer, followed by an introduction from our Co-Chair, Martin Tiller. Dr. Daniel Cordle will deliver the keynote talk, “Of Ends and Beginnings: The Stories We Tell About the Nuclear Age,” with an opportunity for Q&A.
“With a background in higher education, where he was until recently Associate Professor in English and American Literature at Nottingham Trent University, Dr Daniel Cordle is a writer and researcher, specialising in the literature and culture of the nuclear age, on which he has published extensively. He is the author of two books about nuclear culture: States of Suspense: The Nuclear Age, Postmodernism and United States Fiction and Prose (Manchester University Press, 2007) and Late Cold War Literature and Culture: The Nuclear 1980s (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017). His most recent book, co-edited with Sarah Jackson, is Bunker: Stories and Poems from a Nuclear Age (Five Leaves Publishing, 2024), in which writers respond to the abandoned spaces of Nottingham War Rooms, a nuclear bunker that would have been a Regional Seat of Government in the event of nuclear war.”
You can then choose between two insightful workshops: a Bible study on Romans 12 or a session on Catholic social teaching and peace-making. After lunch, more workshops await, including a role-play on telling stories for peace or making origami peace cranes. We’ll come together for prayers for the Week of Prayer for World Peace before an exciting update on the launch of Christians for Peace and Disarmament (CPAD). The day wraps up with our Annual General Meeting, finishing our event off at 3.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
