Leaving a Legacy to Christian CND
After providing for those you love, leaving a gift in your Will to Christian Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful way to ensure our work for a peaceful, nuclear-free world continues into the future.
What is a legacy?
A legacy is a special gift left in a Will or added via a codicil. It can be a fixed sum of money, a percentage share of an estate, or specific items of value.
How to leave a gift to Christian CND
1. If you already have a Will You do not need to rewrite your entire Will to include Christian CND. You can simply add an official amendment called a codicil. Ask your solicitor to arrange an appointment to add a codicil, which is then stored alongside your original Will. The witnesses for a codicil do not need to be the same people who witnessed your original Will.
2. If you have not yet made a Will
- Using a solicitor: Professional fees for drafting a Will vary, so it is often worth contacting more than one solicitor for quotes. A straightforward Will is generally low cost.
- Writing your own Will: While DIY Will kits exist, ensuring your instructions are legally binding and accurate is crucial, so we strongly recommend using a qualified solicitor.
Preparing to write or update your Will
To make the process as straightforward as possible, it helps to prepare the following before meeting with your solicitor:
- List your assets: Note down what you own, including property, savings, and valuable items.
- Outline your bequests: Decide who should share in your estate and to what degree, alongside any specific financial gifts or personal items you wish to leave to individuals or causes.
- Choose your executors: Ask permission from usually two trusted people who will agree to administer your estate.
- Choose your witnesses: Identify two independent people (who are not beneficiaries in your Will) to witness your signature.
