Join the Christian Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for our 2021 Conference. After holding last year’s event online due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we are looking forward to finally being able to gather in Newcastle for what promises to be a wonderful day of fellowship, workshops and prayer.
We’re delighted that we’ll be joined at Jesmond Methodist Church by Dr Nick Megoran, who is a lecturer in Political Geography at Newcastle University specialising in religion and the war on terror and also a Baptist minister.
We will also have workshops to chose from, with each one will be repeated twice to ensure people can participate as much as possible. You can either attend the same workshop twice or two different ones. Workshops will cover topical issues as well as providing a space for discussion and prayer with others in attendance.
The Conference will take place just weeks before the twice-postponed Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference at the United Nations in New York. This key meeting, which takes place every five years, reviews progress towards nuclear disarmament under the auspices of the NPT. It will be followed in early-2022 by the First States Parties Meeting of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
In many ways this has been a difficult year, with the UK government announced an increase in the number of nuclear warheads in our stockpiles, but we have a sure hope in Jesus. A hope which motivates us to continue to work and pray for a nuclear weapons-free world.
The Conference will be a fantastic opportunity to gather with other Christians who share our vision of a world free of nuclear weapons. We hope you will be able to join us on the day.
The full timetable for day is currently being finalised and will be available soon.
This event is free, but it helps with planning if you can book on Eventbrite.
