Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
As Christians we have the eternal promise of peace with God through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, who died that we might be brought back into relationship with God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and as His followers we have been called to live peaceably wherever possible. Believers have been praying for peace for 2000 years yet governments, including our own, believe that the way to achieve peace is by possessing nuclear weapons, which carry the threat to kill millions of people and destroy God’s creation.
Each one of the UK’s four submarines which carry nuclear weapons has eight missiles, which in turn each have five warheads. Each warhead is around eight times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. Despite having signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which places a duty on states to disarm, the UK is instead forging ahead with a project to develop a new generation of weapons, costing at least £200 billion.
At Christian CND we believe there is a better way of achieving peace through eliminating nuclear weapons throughout the world and conducting international relations based on respect, collaboration and friendship, without the threat of mass destruction. We believe that this will be brought about through actions backed up by prayers.
That’s why every month we publish a Prayer Diary, which we hope will inspire your prayers for our nation and our world. You can also find out more information about our campaigning efforts and how you can get involved.
You can be part of our movement by becoming a member of Christian CND today. Membership gives you plenty of benefits but most importantly you will be standing alongside other Christians across the country in saying God has a different path for us by opposing nuclear weapons and working and praying for their elimination.
