Venezuela ratifies the Ban Treaty

Venezuela has become the latest state to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in New York. It is the seventh state to formally adopt the Treaty, which was negotiated at the United Nations last year.

During the Christian CND Embassies Walk earlier this month, we visited the Venezuelan Embassy in London to thank them for their support of the Treaty and urge them to complete ratification as soon as possible. We are pleased that the news of ratification has come so quickly after this visit.

The Treaty will come in to force when fifty states have completed the ratification process, which is well underway in many states. The international community continues to move away from nuclear weapons as our own government seeks to spend £200 billion on the replacement of Trident. Please join us in praying that this decision will be reconsidered and that the UK will join the Ban Treaty.
